Forgiveness and Hypnotherapy

By: Faith Bouie, CIHt

In hypnotherapy, the journeying which unfolds as one relives the past and revisits that which has been long repressed under the protection of his/her subconscious mind remains an honor to facilitate for any hypnotherapist in the field. We understand that the pain and suffering that is present in one’s life emanate from the very origin of an unresolved event from the past, and furthermore, that life can be acknowledged as a plethora of memories governed and processed through the nature of his/her own subconscious conditioning.

When traumatic events happen to us when we are young of age (typically before the age of 10 yrs.), fallacies about ourselves are developed and instilled within the memory. Beliefs such as, “I am stupid, dumb, worthless and/or powerless.”, become the child’s reality, and are thus accepted in adulthood as core beliefs held to be true from the perspective of subconsciousness (i.e. inner child, adult or parent). The false beliefs that are therefore stored within subconsciousness are capable of producing unhealthy emotions such as fear, anger, hurt and/or guilt, and can moreover consequently activate the unhealthy behavioral patterns that we see today from nail-biting, smoking and overeating to the verbal, physical and emotional abuse expressed through words and even violence.

With hypnotherapy, we are able to access and transform the source of a specific given cause or issue by regressing to the root memory (Initial Sensitizing Event, aka. ISE) harboring the core belief that is connected to the matter of concern. And while it is very imperative to resurface the ISE, it is even more paramount to resolve and bring forgiveness to whatever submerges into the consciousness of the mind.

The journey received from gained understanding, commonality, acceptance, forgiveness and compassion can thus transform the child, and bring about true peace in the memory. The adult no longer suffers and is no longer a puppet to the nature of his/her subconsciousness as a result, and true freedom becomes a reality in light of forgiveness, allowing the individual to truly lead a life in honor of peace and harmony.
